18 months ago in Albay there were no sailing boats and no sailing Club. A group decided to build 12 Oz Goose Sailing Dinghies to re-establish the Albay Yacht Club.

One of the Philippines first yacht clubs it has not operated for decades. That has been changed!!!

A couple of months building using our detailed video instructions for building the Oz Goose Sailboat then 12 boats and an active club that is sailing 4 or more times a week.

2022 the biggest fleet of sailing Dinghies to ever sail in the Philippines

The re boot of the Albay Yacht Club and hard work by their organisers and the volunteers in the Oz Goose community and a group of sponsors made it possible for Albay to host the 2022 Oz Goose National titles.

It is amazing to think that there was no sailing here two years ago. And now the Albay Yacht Club has hosted the biggest and most successful dinghy sailing championships in the history of the Philippines.

Creating a tourist and news blog sensation for Albay.

Setting up a 20 boat Sailing Fleet in Butuan

Before Covid we set up a building program at the St Joseph’s Institute of Technology to build 20 Oz Goose sailboats.

It has been a tremendous success with the boats being built by the students of the Maritime College. Seafaring Cadets that will know how to sail, experience practical navigation and boat handling and take care of boats.

It creates the core of their PE program.

Building from Philippines Made KIts for Oz Goose Sailboat

The kits for the build were prepared by the Philippine Home Boatbuilding Yacht Club – a non profit that has been behind the more than 100 Oz Geese that are introducing hundreds of Filipinos and foreigners to sailing on lovely tropical waters.

The Albay Yacht Club was actually founded in1907 but has been inactive for many decades.

It goes to show that the right boat, affordable kits, a network of volunteers and a vision can have a huge result.

There is an FBW – Family boatbuilding weekend held once or twice a year or you can build at your own pace at home with or without a kit.
